The Government Affairs Department actively monitors and responds
to Federal, State and local legislative changes that might affect
Tribal programs and works closely with Federal, State and Local
governments, their agencies and employees to coordinate
governmental activities that affect tribal interests. The
Department also works with our Congressional delegation to support
pro-tribal legislation and appropriations.
Additionally, the Department works with other tribes and tribal
organizations to educate legislators, defeat harmful legislation
and promote legislation that benefits the Tribe and its membership.
The Tribe participates actively in the National Congress of
American Indians, National Indian Gaming Association, National
Tribal Self-Governance Consortium, Affiliated Tribes of Northwest
Indians and the Association of Washington Tribes, as well as
several subject-matter specific organizations related to
environmental protection, health and social services, which benefit
from the combined strength of the member tribes working together to
support common interests.
Chairman Cladoosby co-chaired the Annual Centennial Accord meeting
in 2009 with Tribal Chairs, the Governor and their respective
staff. The Tribe's Chairman is the current chair of the Association
of Washington Tribes and in 2009 was elected to a three year term
as the President of the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians
(ATNI). As ATNI President, he represents tribes from the Pacific
Northwest region on the executive committee of the National
Congress of American Indians (NCAI).
