The Swinomish Tribal Community hosts an annual Earth Day celebration. The day's activities include environmental awareness displays, community clean up and service projects, cultural activities and a traditional salmon lunch. The 2010 Earth Day celebration was held Sunday, April 25 and marked the 8th year of the event.
HIGHLIGHTS
- E-Cycle: Recycled 3 truck loads full of TVs, Monitors, Computer towers, and other electronics.
- Recycled 1 fish tote full of old fishing nets.
- Removed 1 truck load of invasive ivy by the smokehouse, and 1 truck load of blackberries.
- Composted all food waste.
- Used real (re-usable) utensils, plates and glasses.
- Over 20 organizations participated with education booths.
- La Conner Middle School Earth Club fundraised $150 selling smoothies.
- La Conner High School Earth Club sold all 60 of their salsa pots; fundraiser went to purchase Hedlin's CSAs for the community.
- Over 200 people attended the event, and 75 people volunteered.
