We need you to help make Longhouse Media even better
Longhouse Media is looking for passionate, creative volunteers to start immediately. Longhouse Media, located in the Pacific Northwest along the Puget Sound, is currently run by staff committed to providing Indigenous youth opportunities to become talented young filmmakers, storytellers and educators:
The mission of Longhouse Media is to catalyze Indigenous people and communities to use media as a tool for self-expression, cultural preservation, and social change. Longhouse Media draws from traditional and modern forms of artistic expression, storytelling, teaching and inquiry, based in the technologies of today. Native Lens is a program of LONGHOUSE MEDIA, which supports the growth and expression of Indigenous youth through digital media making.
We need people for all sorts of jobs and time commitments. Here are some examples of ways you can get involved today:
- Fundraising Action Team
Be part of a team and work with our board to acquire donations and corporate sponsorships. Help organize a fundraiser for Longhouse Media or even just pass on some of your contacts to us.
- Marketing/PR/Outreach Team:
Help promote Longhouse Media. We need people talented in the arts, in design, in printing and in community outreach. Especially interested in high school and college aged individuals who can help to promote workshops, trainings and screenings at their schools. We also need someone to take over managing the myspace, facebook and similar accounts and help drive traffic to them.
- Festival Operations/Advisory Committee:
Help advise and work on many aspects of the day-to-day operations and organization of our SuperFly Film Experience with the Seattle International Film Festival. SuperFly is our most intensive and exciting collaborative program bringing together filmmakers, students and mentors for 36 hours of on the fly filmmaking.
- Community Outreach/Year-Round Programs:
Longhouse Meida is partnering with many other Native American, Indigenous, local film, media and youth organizations to bring year-round programs and events. Be part of the team that brings that to life. We are also seeking individuals who are able to present our films with in their communities or tribal programs.
- Education/Media Training:
We are seeking individuals with various backgrounds in education but who are especially aware of and experienced about Native American and indigenous cultures, to help develop curriculum for film and youth programming. Longhouse Media runs a nationally recognized program for youth called Native Lens. We are actively seeking qualified teachers for our media and film programming; super 8, film, video, music, podcasting, print, acting, critical analysis, basic camera, editing, etc.
There are many other ways to get involved as well. Feel free to send us your proposal. We are also looking for professionals who can donate time, especially in Native American cultural practices, design, finance and in legal, to review contracts and policies.
If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please email your resume and a cover letter to: nativelens@mac.com
As Longhouse Media grows, these volunteer positions could grow into jobs or a place on the organization's board. We thank you for your time and support!
